Game Rules

Objective of the Game

Work cooperatively to discover cures for all four diseases before time runs out and prevent the global spread of infections.

Number of Players

2-4 players

Board Information

A world map with major cities connected by routes. Each city is associated with one of four colors representing different diseases.

Setup

  1. Place the board in the center and assign each player a role card.
  2. Place the four disease cubes on their starting cities as indicated by the Infection Deck.
  3. Draw nine Infection Cards to determine the initial outbreaks.
  4. Place the Infection Rate marker, Outbreaks marker, and Cures Discovered markers in their starting positions.
  5. Distribute player cards and place the player pawns in Atlanta, the location of the CDC.

Basic Gameplay

  1. On a player’s turn, they can perform up to four actions, such as moving between cities, treating infections, sharing knowledge, or building research stations.
  2. Players draw two Player Cards at the end of their turn and resolve any Epidemic Cards drawn.
  3. Draw Infection Cards to determine which cities get new disease cubes.
  4. Players must work together to collect sets of five same-colored cards to discover cures for the diseases.

Winning Conditions

The game is won when cures for all four diseases are discovered. Players lose if there are too many outbreaks, if they run out of disease cubes, or if the Player Deck runs out of cards.

Key Terms

  • Disease Cube: Represents the spread of a disease in a city.
  • Infection Deck: Cards that determine where new disease cubes are placed.
  • Player Deck: Cards that players draw from, including city cards and Epidemic Cards.
  • Epidemic Card: Increases the infection rate and spreads disease more rapidly.
  • Research Station: Locations where players can discover cures.
  • Outbreak: Occurs when a city has more than three disease cubes, causing the disease to spread to adjacent cities.

Strategy and Tips

Alright, pandemic fighters, listen up. The key to winning Pandemic is teamwork and communication. Prioritize curing diseases over treating symptoms—yes, it’s great to clear cubes, but finding those cures is your ultimate goal. Spread your team across the map to cover more ground and respond quickly to outbreaks. Use the special abilities of your role cards to their fullest potential. And remember, sometimes you need to sacrifice short-term gains for long-term victories. Keep your cool, plan ahead, and work together to keep those outbreaks in check.

Advanced Strategies

For those seasoned Pandemic players looking to up their game, here are some expert tips:

  1. Role Synergy: Combine roles that complement each other, such as the Medic and Scientist, for maximum efficiency.
  2. Card Management: Be strategic about how you use your cards, especially when sharing knowledge or building research stations.
  3. Proactive Planning: Anticipate where outbreaks might occur and position your team to prevent chain reactions.
  4. Epidemic Response: Quickly address Epidemic Cards to minimize their impact and prevent the infection rate from spiraling out of control.
  5. Global Coverage: Ensure your team is spread out to respond swiftly to new outbreaks and contain diseases before they become unmanageable.
